The sun is rising a minute or two earlier each day, daffodils are almost ready for their golden display and the tips of green bulbs are pushing through the soil. All these seasonal changes tease the arrival of spring, and we’re starting the day in a happy mindset by making breakfast a thoughtful, leisurely occasion.
We appreciate this can be tricky on weekdays when the household is rushing out the door, instead take the opportunity at the weekend for a relaxed start to the day. Eating together at breakfast time is a wonderful time to connect – everyone is fresh from sleep and looking forward to what the day will bring.
The menu doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact the simpler the better allowing you to be present at the table. A loaf of sourdough from your local baker, delicious jams and marmalades and a slab of butter will go a long way! You could serve natural yoghurt, granola and honey and place from bowls of seasonal fruit in the middle of the table. To drink, a cafetiere of coffee and pot of tea, along with fresh fruit juice.
Lay the table the night before to make life easy the next morning. We believe every day is deserving of a pretty tablecloth, not just special occasions, so our linen version in rose will be making an appearance at breakfast time. Add fresh flowers in vases to signal spring is on the way and you can fold linen napkins at each place to bring a lovely sense of occasion.
Our new ceramic collection has been chosen specially for slow mornings like these. Delicate yet durable, each piece makes everyday dining feel special. The plates, bowls and cups feature a delicate botanical pattern that looks almost like real leaves and flowers have been pressed on to the stoneware clay before firing. The classic white shade is in pretty contrast to the intricate detailing and the crockery is subtle enough to sit alongside other tableware collections.
This season we’re making the most of life’s simple pleasures, and why not start with the first meal of the day. If you’re lucky, the sun will make an appearance to lift your spirits at breakfast time.
