As the evenings draw in, we naturally start to turn our attention indoors. Home becomes a place to settle into, and there’s a feeling of preparing for the season ahead, adding warmth and texture, making spaces feel comfortable and inviting and enjoying the house a little more as the days get shorter.
It is a time for softer fabrics, thoughtful details and creating spaces that feel good to be in, whether that means lingering a little longer around the table, sinking into the sofa or making the bedroom feel especially inviting.
With the pace of the days beginning to slow, our latest edit for autumn is designed to bring a little more comfort and character to the everyday.
Gathered and Styled
There is something familiar and nostalgic about a well-loved dresser. Stacked with plates, mugs and jugs, it becomes as much a part of the room as the table itself. A lovingly-curated tells a story of the home and people inside it, and it brings such character to a cosy kitchen.
Old pieces sit happily alongside new finds, with mismatched ceramics and everyday favourites gathered together rather than carefully coordinated. A favourite jug here, a stack of plates there – practical things become part of the display, bringing colour, texture and a sense of history to the room.
How to Style a Dresser
Whether you have a traditional kitchen dresser, a set of open shelves or a simple sideboard, a few easy principles help it feel collected rather than cluttered:
Light for Longer Evenings
As daylight fades earlier, the way we light our homes matters more than ever. Soft, low light makes a room feel warmer and more intimate, and nothing does this quite like candlelight.
A pair of candle wall sconces either side of a dresser, fireplace or mirror adds a gentle glow at eye level, freeing up table space and drawing attention to the pieces around them. Light them as you sit down to supper and let the overhead lights stay off for the evening.
A Recipe for the Season: Spiced Apple Warmer
And finally, to really celebrate the season within – a warming cup for crisp chilly evenings. Made in a pan and poured from a jug into your favourite mugs, this is autumn in a drink and it fills the house with the most wonderful scent. Serves 4-6.

Settling In
Autumn asks us to slow down a little – to light a candle a little earlier, reach for a favourite mug and spend more time in the rooms we love. It’s the small things, gathered together over time, that make a house feel like home. And there is no better season to enjoy them.
