As autumn melts into winter, we’re writing our Christmas list and making plans for the festive period. In fact, Christmas has been on our minds for some months as we worked with our artisan community to curate the annual Sorbet Living winter and festive collection.
Each year we search thoughtfully for special pieces that will make beautiful gifts and live on for many festivities to come in your homes. You can be confident that these items have been handmade by ethical companies with caring values, embodying the true spirit of Christmas.
We would all love to open something to treasure and pass down through the family, rather than a throwaway gift that will gather dust on a shelf. These pieces are designed to be enjoyed again and again at your memorable get togethers, and timeless enough to enhance everyday moments too.
Our scalloped vase by South Coast ceramicist Alice Passingham is a beautiful gift for every home. To make this piece even more special, fill it with seasonal blooms before gifting it.
This striped stoneware bowl is sure to become a regular table centrepiece, perfect for grazing nuts and nibbles. The earthy shades around the rim matches with a festive theme, but also look pretty on a Mediterranean summer table.
This year we have a first for Sorbet Living – a beautiful linen tablecloth embroidered with the festive phrase ‘Joyeux Noel’. This Christmas tablecloth was created in collaboration with London embroiderers The Lost Girls and makes such a special gift. It’s weighty and luxurious looking, with an artfully frayed edge. Each piece is made to order with a three week delivery time, so we recommend purchasing before the end of November to guarantee arrival before Christmas.
A beautiful basket will be appreciated by everyone, especially one like this. It’s made in West Sussex by a skilled basket weaver from natural willow, giving it a unique colour and woody scent. You can use it to store wine bottles, fruit and vegetables or pop a flask and sandwiches in for a winter picnic. To keep it looking its best, leave it out in the summer rain once a year and dry after – this will revive the willow.
This nostalgic Plum Platter is on our Christmas list! This is the type of heirloom that will be taken out each winter and used for all manner of seasonal feasts, from cheeseboards and canapes to glazed ham on Boxing Day. Over the years will become synonymous with Christmas in your family. The plum platter is handmade and etched by ceramicist Hannah Clarke.
Our Buttermilk Cake Stand is a wonderful gift for bakers, or simply those who enjoy a sweet treat! It’s handmade by Hampshire ceramicist Tash Fry and has a lovely tactile look, with pretty shaped edges. Ideal for displaying festive panettone and yule log, as well as being used throughout the year for tea parties.
These decorated vases by Hannah Clarke feel like the kind of heirloom our grandparents would bring down from the attic each Christmas, to be kept filled with winter stems. There are two designs to choose from, a thistle or a lily, or you could gift both to be enjoyed in the centre of a festive table.
Christmas is about being cosy, and these indulgent gifts will be worn and snuggled into over the festive season. Each treat is possibly something they wouldn’t buy for themselves, and they will love slipping into or under come late December.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without an afternoon snuggled on the sofa watching festive films. Our herringbone blanket is ideal for cosying under, and there’s a special heritage behind its soft, warm fabric. This blanket is made from the wool of an ancient breed of Jacob’s sheep in Scotland, featuring brown and ecru shades. The natural wool is a sustainable material and beautifully breathable, and no two of these blankets are the same.
Our sheepskin cushions are a simple way to bring a winter theme to the sofa. Available in cream or brown, they work with all interiors styles and make a thoughtful, seasonal gift.
Something to make bedtime and mornings a little more luxurious – our gingham linen robe. The soft linen of this dressing gown ages so well and the material is warm yet breathable. The natural check complements all colours of pyjamas and this is the kind of elegant robe you can wear for breakfast on Christmas morning.
Whether you’re filling a stocking for a family member, buying a small gift for a coworker or searching for something meaningful to treat your child’s teacher – these little gifts are sure to bring moments of joy to everyone who receives them.
For the coffee lover, a glass or set of glasses to enjoy their morning espresso. These also make a great vessel for affogatos, cortados or festive liqueurs.
Our dainty little bud vase suits smaller stems, or it can be paired alongside larger vases on a tablescape. Made from stoneware at a Norfolk pottery.
New for Christmas, we have soy candles housed in amber glass inspired by ancient monuments of the classical world. These make such a unique gift. Delphi features notes of eucalyptus, cypress and pine, Alexandria has spicy aromas of honey and sandalwood and Petra brings an earthy fragrance of bergamot, geranium and amber. Each candle’s label has an intricate drawing of the historical sites and come in a cardboard box. Made for Sorbet Living by Chatham and Chase.
We also have a range of candleholders, which together with our beeswax pillar candles, make a special stocking filler. Our decorated candleholder by Hannah Clarke has a wavy hand-etched pattern and rustic feel. For a simpler design, go for our stoneware candleholder made by Alice Passingham.
We hope this selection of winter items sparks ideas for your gifting, or for your own Christmas wishlist!
