Socialising tends to take a turn inwards at this time of year, with many of us hosting cosy lunches, dinner parties and coffee and cake dates in the comfort of our homes. It can be so relaxing to slip your shoes off at a friends house and curl up on their sofa with a cup of something warm and a slice of freshly-baked cake. Or to have friends and family fill your home with love and laughter over a simple supper.
Our new Winter collection celebrates these quiet, meaningful winter gatherings with a selection of pieces chosen for their provenance, enduring beauty and elegant practicality in the home. The new season arrives with a palette of soft, muted browns, creamy whites and amber hues across handmade, natural textiles and ceramics creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The kind of perfect scene pictured through a window in winter – candles flickering, a teapot passed around, someone slicing into a generous cake and smiles on everyone’s faces.
This winter we have introduced a series of buttermilk ceramics, pieces so striking they make any dish a seasonal showstopper. Weighty and tactile, this tableware is crafted by ceramicist Tash Fry in her rural studio on the banks of the River Itchen. Dinner plates, a cake stand and platter are all available in buttermilk, perfect for welcoming the winter season at your next gathering. We are thrilled to add our first Espresso glass to the collection too; a handblown fluted glass made in Portugal inspired by coffee shot glasses from European bistros.
Continuing the bistro theme, we bring small Bistro Glasses to our tableware – a lovely relaxed glass option for wine, water and other drinks, These glasses have gentle fluting and a compact shape and look so pretty on the table, just perfect for those special winter gatherings.
To soften the seats at your winter table, we welcome linen cushion covers in a putty shade. Linen is such a slubby, comforting fabric to nestle into, and this versatile shade will work with a range of tablecloth colours.
We fell in love with Hannah Clarke’s new vase designs and had to add them to our winter collection. The stoneware vases are decorated with either a thistle, or a lily, with incredible detail and a rustic finish. These vases remind us of the kind of gem you would find at an antiques shop, or a much treasured family ceramic shared through generations. They look beautiful on a table filled with a few seasonal sprigs.
After the cake has been eaten, it’s time to retire to the living room and put your feet up in our alpaca socks. Pop the kettle on for another cup, decant some nibbles and start your gift list for Christmas or read that coffee table book you bought in the summer but had no time to open.
November is a month for easing into winter and enjoying the peace before the busy festive season – we hope our new pieces inspire you to gather round the table and create a calm, happy get together with your loved ones.
