Autumn | Collected Over Time

As the evenings draw in, we turn our attention indoors - to collected ceramics, soft candlelight and the simple comforts that make home feel good to be in.

As the evenings draw in, we naturally start to turn our attention indoors. Home becomes a place to settle into, and there’s a feeling of preparing for the season ahead, adding warmth and texture, making spaces feel comfortable and inviting and enjoying the house a little more as the days get shorter.

It is a time for softer fabrics, thoughtful details and creating spaces that feel good to be in, whether that means lingering a little longer around the table, sinking into the sofa or making the bedroom feel especially inviting.

With the pace of the days beginning to slow, our latest edit for autumn is designed to bring a little more comfort and character to the everyday.

Gathered and Styled

There is something familiar and nostalgic about a well-loved dresser. Stacked with plates, mugs and jugs, it becomes as much a part of the room as the table itself. A lovingly-curated tells a story of the home and people inside it, and it brings such character to a cosy kitchen.

Old pieces sit happily alongside new finds, with mismatched ceramics and everyday favourites gathered together rather than carefully coordinated. A favourite jug here, a stack of plates there – practical things become part of the display, bringing colour, texture and a sense of history to the room.

How to Style a Dresser

Whether you have a traditional kitchen dresser, a set of open shelves or a simple sideboard, a few easy principles help it feel collected rather than cluttered:

  • Start at the back – lean your largest plates upright against the back of each shelf to create a backdrop, then layer smaller pieces in front
  • Stack with intention – piles of three to five plates or bowls look generous without feeling crowded, and keep your everyday pieces within easy reach
  • Let mugs hang – a row of hooks along the underside of a shelf frees up space and turns your favourite cups into part of the display
  • Use jugs as vases – fill one with seasonal stems – rosehips, dried hydrangeas, beech or eucalyptus – to bring the outdoors in as the garden quietens
  • Choose a loose palette – pick two or three colours that run through your pieces so that old and new, patterned and plain, feel connected
  • Leave some breathing room – a little empty space on each shelf lets individual pieces stand out and makes it easier to keep adding over time
  • Refresh with the seasons – swap a few pieces forward as autumn arrives. Warmer glazes, deeper tones and handmade textures change the feel of a room instantly

Light for Longer Evenings

As daylight fades earlier, the way we light our homes matters more than ever. Soft, low light makes a room feel warmer and more intimate, and nothing does this quite like candlelight.

A pair of candle wall sconces either side of a dresser, fireplace or mirror adds a gentle glow at eye level, freeing up table space and drawing attention to the pieces around them. Light them as you sit down to supper and let the overhead lights stay off for the evening.
