It all happens around the table at Christmas. Pastries and glasses clinking with bucks fizz for breakfast, pouring tea alongside slices of panettone and the showstopping feast of Christmas lunch – the table is the centrepiece of this special time.
Dressing your table for Christmas is a lovely ritual that sets the festive scene, however large or intimate your gathering is this year. For us, the perfect Christmas tablescape draws on heritage pieces you already own with a few seasonal updates, and a bounteous arrangement of foraged greenery. We embrace a rustic feel with a sprinkling of nostalgia in a table arrangement that enhances your dishes without overcrowding the space.
We love the idea of having a classic Christmas tablecloth that is brought out each year to celebrate the festive season. In time, the tablecloth will become associated with lovely memories and it will be a real keepsake of the family. All of our table linens are Christmas appropriate including the soft grey gingham and classic natural tablecloth. For something really special and nostalgic this season, we have an exclusive tablecloth hand-embroidered with ‘Joyeux Noel.’ Complete the look with linen napkins in natural shades or pops of colour.
Christmas tableware should tell a story. Many people use antique pieces for festive dining; treasures gathered over the years or passed down through families. Contrasting designs and quirky one-offs make a festive table unique and memorable – feel free to mix old and new ceramics! This year we have rustic pieces from Hampshire ceramicist Tash Fry including the tactile petal bowl in buttermilk and weighty platter, alongside hand painted pieces made by Hannah Clarke in her East Sussex studio.
Head out on a country walk a day or two before Christmas to forage your table greenery, looking for evergreen branches and seasonal stems to weave into your table settings. Mistletoe, holly, eucalyptus, old man’s beard, willow, birch branches and even clusters of green herbs all work beautifully. Create a garland on the table or style greenery in vases of different heights, dotting candles throughout the display. Don’t forget to give the stems a light misting with water every day to keep them looking fresh.

Remember, your styling goes beyond just the table itself. Add warmth and a luxurious feel with blankets and cushions on chairs, choosing soft and warm natural materials. Christmas lunch is by its nature, long and indulgent, so give your guests the comfort and cosiness to settle in and enjoy the experience.
If you choose just one new piece for your Christmas table, make it something that will become a family heirloom to be brought out year after year. An item that evokes memories of yesteryear and the charm of Christmas gone by – our Plum Platter for the annual cheeseboard, decorated candleholders to add a rosy glow to the room, or the striped stoneware bowl filled with nuts and fruits.
We hope this gives lot of inspiration for your Christmas table!
