Just as we begin to tire of the wet weeks and short days, Easter is almost upon us with its promise of sunshine and new beginnings. The Easter long weekend arrives early this year with Good Friday falling on 29th March, even more reason to come together with family and friends for a beautiful celebration.
We’re already thinking about the styling of our Easter table, whether it’s for a Good Friday feast, weekend breakfast or Easter Sunday roast. We’ll be using elements we already own and injecting fresh details from our Spring collection, all of which can be carried over to the next high days and holidays with some styling tweaks.
A tablescape should be a reflection of your individual style and we love personality over perfection; it should feel homely and inviting with the promise of a relaxed, lingering meal ahead. Here’s how we design a spring-themed Easter table.
Pretty prints
Only a few months ago we were in festive mode, with a table of deep colours and green foliage – whereas our Easter theme ushers in lighter shades and spring details. For a base palette we love traditional gingham like our Ruffle Check Linen Tablecloth in pink; this handmade piece is destined to become a family heirloom with its weighty natural fabric and flounced edges. Carry on the checked prints with our Linen Napkins, which come in a set of two and look lovely folded on plates or rolled and tied with ribbon in a contrasting colour, such beautiful linen napkins.
Delicate details
Every Easter theme should have a touch of whimsy, and we’ve brought this into our styling with intricate details across the textiles and tableware. Our linen napkins have a pretty pearl trim, layering beautifully against the checked tablecloth. These linen napkins come in sage or putty; two colours we associate with nature. Our fluted vases bring organic shapes to the table and the scalloped candle holders add another ceramic texture, all coming together to create a playful showcase.
Less is lovely
Your Easter tablescape can still be minimal, in fact we encourage a less is more approach to be lighter on the environment. Perhaps start with a colour as your styling inspiration, or choose one new item to buy and have fun finding new ways with your existing pieces. You don’t have to crowd the table; give those things you do have a chance to breathe and if in doubt focus on flowers / greenery, candles and small dishes filled with seasonal fruits, nuts or chocolates – pastel coloured chocolate eggs are ideal at Easter. Play with different heights so you have visual interest when people walk over to the table and for a simple but special touch, personalise the table to your guests with handwritten place cards.
Thoughtful lighting
Lighting is so important in setting the mood at a table. Even if you’re hosting lunch, by the time dessert and coffee has been served the afternoon light could be fading and you don’t want to shatter the ambiance by turning on a bright overhead light. If you have lamps around your home, make sure you have two or three in the dining area so you can switch them on when needed, and light our Dining Candles for a soft glow.
Finish with a flourish
We love rounding off an Easter gathering with a celebratory dessert. A sweet treat to serve with coffee or a pot of tea always goes down well, and we’ll be bringing ours out on fresh white crockery with cake plates ready for guests to tuck in.
